Before & After: How We Transformed an Outdated Model Home into a Timeless, Livable Sanctuary

Last summer, we were thrilled to collaborate with Royal Homes, a local pre-fab home builder serving Southern Ontario and beyond. They currently have three beautiful model homes at their design center, but after many years, these spaces were due for a significant refresh. Our task was clear: update all the finishes, fixtures, and materials, and completely furnish and decorate the home to reflect current trends while maintaining a classic, family-friendly design.

For many of their clients, walking into a model home is the first step that often comes with a sense of overwhelm about where to start. We wanted this updated model to instantly relieve that stress and give them confidence in the decision-making process.

Before: A Home Waiting for Its Next Chapter

The original homes were well-designed for their time, but the materials and furnishings were starting to feel dated. The spaces lacked the layered, soulful feeling we strive for in our human-centered designs.

Just check out some of the before photos:

Our Approach: Warmth, Intentionality, and Function

Our vision was to create an atmosphere that was bright, airy, yet warm and welcoming, utilizing materials and furnishings that are truly designed for living. This meant marrying function with aesthetics for a truly holistic design.

We focused on evoking emotions of calm, comfort, and well-being. We believe a home should reflect personality and style, feeling deeply personal even in a model space.

Here's how we achieved the look:

  • Soft Color Palette: We chose a grounding, soft color palette that offers a refreshing change from dominant cool tones, ensuring the space feels both current and timeless.

  • Layers of Texture: Texture was key! We incorporated a variety of tactile materials—from linen and woven elements to warm wood tones—to create a visually balanced and layered space.

  • Warm Brass Accents: To elevate the design, we used warm brass finishes for lighting and hardware. This small detail adds a sense of quiet luxury and refinement without feeling overly bold.

  • Family-Friendly Materials: Recognizing that our ideal clients are often families , we made intentional choices. We selected durable, high-quality materials, such as comfortable upholstery and resilient surfaces, to ensure the home is both lovely and livable. This allows families to feel confident in their spaces and not worry about wear and tear.

After: A Full-Service, Human-Centered Transformation

The result is a stunning, elevated home that immediately makes you feel at ease. It demonstrates how a full-service approach can completely dissolve the stress of a renovation or new build. Our process-driven, structured approach means you get professional support throughout the entire project.

We love seeing the vision come to life. The new design not only looks incredible but also clearly communicates the benefits of having an Interior Designer on your new build team—someone who ensures every detail of the finished home will look and function for your particular needs, saving you time and money.

If you are dreaming of a new build or a full-service renovation but are overwhelmed with the process and lack the knowledge to make informed decisions, we are here to support you. We guide you through the entire project, ensuring a pleasant and supportive experience.
