My Go-To Coffee Table Styling Tips…revealed!

Styling is something so many of my clients struggle with, especially when it comes to coffee tables. I feel ya…you can spend HOURS moving things around, adding this, removing that, only to feel like you ended up with a bigger mess than you started. So I’m here to let you in on my top go to, no fail coffee styling secrets…..and you won’t believe how simple it can be to get that magazine worthy look.

  1. Start with a bowl or a try. They make great containers for your decor, and won’t give the look of floating “stuff” on your table.

  2. Add some greenery. Pretty much all well styled tables have this in common. Keep it small if you don’t have much room, or go for some drama with an oversized vase.

  3. Add some hardcover coffee table books for layering….and for the love….please remove the protective sleeves!! It looks so much better. Just trust me on this. TIP! A great place to find some inexpensive books are the thrift store or your local Home Sense! Even check out the bargain books section at Chapters as well.

  4. Add some decorative objects. This can be a set of candle holders, a sculptural object, wooden beads, a large crystal, a candle….so many options here, just make sure you don’t over-do it. Too many items can end up just looking cluttered. When in doubt, take Coco Chanels famous advise and remove one accessory. Sometimes simple is best.

And one last thing to keep in mind while styling your coffee table….always consider the balance between height and scale. If everything is at the same size and height, it will look boring. Don’t be afraid to add one large or tall piece to balance out the short or small items. You can even stack objects on top of your books to vary the height! Styling should be fun and easy. And If you need inspiration, take note of what you see on Pinterest or in the magazines…you’ll probably start to see that all the stylist are in on the same secret….and now you are too.
