My Guest Bedroom / Craft Room Tour

Wow.  I'm almost embarrassed to tell you how long this room has been in the works. If you've been reading this blog from its humble beginnings, you may recall how I made plans to make my guest bedroom a little prettier, while at the same time creating a space where I could get my craft on, and shut the door from the (constant) mess and curious little boys. If you are new here, (or if your memory is as terrible as mine), heres the post so you can get caught up. This room has actually been finished for awhile, but keeping it clean enough to actually photograph was my challenge!! And lets be honest here...the only time it is EVER this clean is when we have guest over, so when I was preparing for a visitor, I jumped at the chance to finally snap some pics so I could give you guys a tour. So before I blab on too much about how I make this multi-purpose room work in my home, lets take a looksie at how this room finally came together.

Inexpensive details can make all the difference in creating a custom feel to your space. A Tassel thrown over a lamp, new hardware on the nightstands, and pom pom trim dresses up the curtains I found in the clearance rack.

Right from the start, I knew I didn't want to spend a ton of money on this room, so I repurposed some old furniture. The credenza was a TV console we had downstairs. The glass was clear, but I sprayed the inside with a special paint that gives you a mirror finish to glam it up a bit, and hide the mess of crafting supplies that live inside. The drawers are also a great place to hide miscellaneous supplies.

I bought inexpensive shelving and brackets from Ikea that I stained and spray painted. I then  accessorized them with a mix of pretty things and functional storage so they give guests something nice to look at while at the same time keeping supplies close at hand. Colored pencils, paint brushes and washi tape are beautiful enough to keep out on display, so why not make them part of your decor? Even my bolts of fabric and craft paper leaning in the corner make me smile. The shelves also are a great place to display some of my favorite watercolor paintings and quotes. The space where you create needs to be  inspirational and motivating, and most importantly, uniquely you.

The drop leaf table (which I refinished here) sits at the end of the bed and is the perfect size to paint, sew and craft on, but can be easily folded down and tucked out of the way when we are hosting guests.

Instead of spending money on new accessories, I shopped the house and used things I already had. I dug out some vintage postcards that belonged to my great grandfather and put them on display, along with some flea market bookends that I spray painted white for a more modern look.

Keeping all the craft supplies organized is a challenge, but luckily there is a walk-in closet in this room that is large enough to house my stuff AND still give guests a place to hang their clothes. Simple white storage boxes keep all my photos in order and still look clean and uncluttered, while other paper crafting supplies are stored and organized in the file cabinet. Wooden blanket hangers (from throws I had purchased at Home Goods) are the perfect solution to keeping my fabric neat and orderly, not to mention wrinkle free!

I hope this tour of my Guest Bedroom/Craft room has inspired you to create a multi-purpose room in your home. Whether it be a home office, kids play area, or even just a place to pay your bills, with smart storage and the right furniture pieces, a combined space can be both functional and pretty!!
