How to quickly and easily update any lamp shade

Awhile back I scored these amazing lamps in the clearance section at my local Home Goods for only $18 each. $18 bucks! That's a crazy good deal. Crazy good. The only thing not so amazing about these lamps was the tartan inspired plaid trim around the top and bottom of each shade.

But for only $18, I couldn't just leave them on the shelf! I had a great idea on how to easily update the shades with some fabulous greek key trim I had spied at Joann fabrics awhile back. And with my savvy coupon clipping, it was less than $4 a yard. FYI.....Joannes has a great mobile app where you can pull up their coupons right on your phone. Amazon also offers some great options such as this 1.5" Black and Metallic Greek Key Jacquard Trim  at only $1.99/yd.

After pulling off the existing plaid trim, I simply used fabric glue to attach the new greek key trim to the base of the lamp shade, and a simple black trim to the top. I didn't take pictures of the process because as you can see, I was too busy drinking wine and watching my favorite Jersey Girls. Guilty pleasures.;) Bad blogger:(

I think they turned out pretty good. Take a look!

Using fabric trim and ribbon is a quick, cheap and super easy way to update any lampshade. These babies are currently in my family room for right now, but lately I've been day dreaming on how I can update this space, so I'm sure these lamps will eventually be sporting new shades before long.
