Scenes from Savannah
A week ago I had the pleasure to visit Savannah for the very first time with a fabulous bunch of girlfriends, half of who ran the Savannah Half Marathon (congrats girls!! SO proud of you!) Here we all are getting ready for our Carriage Ghost Tour on our last night in Savannah.
I, on the other hand, did NOT run (I’m much more comfortable on my Yoga mat:) but while the girls were prepping/running/recovering from the race, a few of us non-runners had the chance to explore this beautiful southern city and marvel in the grand historical architecture and quaintness of which is Savannah.
I loved walking along the beautiful tree lined streets checking out the old historic homes decked out with ornate iron work, gas lamps and decorative gardens.
I love how all the houses in the historic district had plaques on them indicating when the home was built and for/by whom.
How gorgeous is this HUGE modern door integrated into the historical district?! And the TREES!! Can’t get enough of the Spanish moss draped over the live oaks. So pretty.
We spent a lot of time in and around City Market which is an open air market filled with quaint stores, outdoor bars and restaurants and LOTS of shopping!
Historic River Street was a bustling seaport for trade in mostly cotton and tobacco. You can still visit the original Savannah cotton exchange building. Today it’s cobble stone streets are lined with old restaurants and bars, gift shops and antiques….and many a ghost story to be told:)
We ate at some AMAZING restaurants, including Lady & Son’s which is Paula Deen’s restaurant, and The Olde Pink House where I had one of the best meals of my life! I have to admit….one of my favorite things about going away on vacation is eating, and Savannah did not disappoint! We even got a private ghost tour of the house after dinner…very cool.
I hope you enjoyed your visual tour of Savannah! Definitely a city I would recommend visiting. We had such a blast….thanks girls for a fun weekend filled with a lot of laughs and a little mischief:)
